Vincent Van Gogh was arguably one of the best Dutch painters of the nineteenth century. Today, his paintings continue to inspire millions of people around the world. The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is one of the best places to view Gogh’s paintings and memorabilia.

The museum’s main building was opened in the year 1973 and was built by the famous architect, Gerrit Rietvald. The museum houses a number of Van Gogh’s greatest works including the Sunflowers. Other notable Van Gogh paintings include the Bedroom in Arles and the Potato Eaters. Visitors to the Van Gogh Museum will also have the opportunity to view masterpieces by notable painters like Monet.

The Van Gogh Museum is open on weekdays and viewing hours are extended up until late in the evening every Friday. To gain entry into the museum, guests must pay a modest sum of just over EUR 10 and for an extra few Euros you can also benefit from an audio Van Gogh paintingtour. Visitors who avail of the audio tour can choose their native language and gain further insight into the works and life of Van Gogh.

The main exhibition area was completed in the year 1999 and was designed by the Japanese Architect Kisho Kurokawa. The museum’s main exhibition hall houses paintings from Van Gogh’s life. Guests who visit the museum will gain an understanding of Van Gogh’s development as a painter, as the museum houses art that spans the life of the artist. Guests can start by viewing examples of his work when he was still a child and progress by viewing paintings from different time periods in the painter’s life, where he experienced different moods and emotions.
