Anne Frank House - Amsterdam attractions
Heineken Tour
The Anne Frank house portrays the remnants of the famous wartime diarist, Anne Frank. Visitors to Amsterdam should not fail to make a trip to the very place where Anne Frank’s family together with four others came into hiding from the Nazi persecution during World War II.
The house was opened in 1960 as an act of dedication to Anne and her family’s continuous hardship and is situated near the Prinsengratch canal, a 20 minute walk away
from the central station. The house exhibits Anne Frank’s original diary, historic documents and possessions of those who were in hiding with her. The house has an ambiance to that of the war period and helps visitors to imagine in detail the occurrences of the events that took place here.
The building incorporates a contemporary exhibition area, a bookstore, a cafe and a multimedia area with photos capturing the distress faced by the innocent in concentration camps. The house also features a new diary room, where many other diaries written by Anne Frank are showcased; there is also a small exhibition on Otto Frank and his dream to tell the story of his daughter.
Children over 10 years will find the trip educational. The house is open daily from April through August and only on specific dates the rest of the year. It takes about an hour to finish the tour through the house and group guides are available to explain in detail the activities that took place. Pre purchased tickets are the best way to skip the long queue.
