Amsterdam’s Museum Quarter or the Museumplein is located south of Leidseplein. This is a 19th century quarter that boasts breathtaking architectural examples from that period. The three biggest and most important museums in the country are also located here. These museums, well known for their beautiful exhibits, are the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Stedejijk Museum of Modern Art.
The Museum quarter is an art enthusiast’s paradise is also considered to be the fashion capital of the city. For music lovers, the famous Concertgebouw is also located here and it is home to the Koninlijk Concertgebouworkest or the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
This hall boasts some of the best acoustics in the world and as many as 650 major concerts are held in the concert hall every year. The Concertgebouw also offers visitors free performances during lunchtime and this draws many tourists to the hall.
The Museumplein is the cultural centre of Amsterdam and there are many activities for tourists to take part in. Some of the most famous couture houses are also located in the area and many fashion enthusiasts flock to the Museum Quarter for some upscale shopping. Visitors can purchase anything from designer clothes, handbags and shoes, to diamonds and jewellery. There are also attractions for younger visitors like a children’s wading pool, an ice skating rink and a skateboard park.
