One of the most interesting neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, the Canal Ring area is known throughout the world for its impressive and narrow houses which face the canal.
There are three main canals that surround the Canal Ring area. Referred to as the:
- Prinsengracht
- Keizersgracht
- and Herengracht canals
and translating into the Prince, Emperor and Gentlemen canals respectively, these three canals and their intersecting streets were originally a hub for artists. The Canal Ring area of today, serves as one of the most favoured tourist spots in Amsterdam, with its magnificent architecture, impressive hotels and bars.
The Canal Ring area of Amsterdam is also host to various tourist attractions including the house of Anne Frank and several museums. The eastern canal or the Gouden Bocht, which means the Golden Bend, is also popular with tourists for its intricate gables, well
planned facades and unique architecture.
Some of the more famous hotels in the Canal Ring area of Amsterdam are the Dylan Amsterdam and the Canal House. These hotels boast well-maintained interiors that are in keeping with the overall architectural theme of the canal ring area. Most of the hotels and inns in this area are known for their excellent service and are frequented by tourists.
Visitors to the Canal Ring area of Amsterdam should remember to wear comfortable shoes, as most of the streets in the area have been made of cobblestone. Bringing an umbrella and a jacket along is recommended as the weather in Amsterdam tends to change quite suddenly.
